In a flower-filled boutique nestled along Pacific Coast Highway, a local legend continues to bloom. Jenny Barker, known lovingly as The Flower Doctor, has been crafting emotional, unforgettable floral experiences for over 30 years — and now, she’s adding a new kind of healing to her repertoire: tea.
This May, as we celebrate Mother’s Day and honor the nurturers in our lives, it feels only fitting to spotlight a woman who has turned nurturing into an art form. Jenny doesn’t just sell flowers; she prescribes them.
“I believe flowers are medicine,” she says with a smile. “They heal, uplift, and connect. That’s why I call them Flower Prescriptions.”
In the heart of the South Bay, where she has served generations through birthdays, weddings, baby showers, and moments of loss, Jenny’s work has become something sacred. Her shop, Magical Blooms, is more than a boutique — it’s a sanctuary of beauty, emotion, and now, a home for her newest venture: high tea.
Walking into Magical Blooms feels like stepping into Jenny’s home away from home. The space is infused with warmth, comfort, and a welcoming spirit that instantly makes you feel like family. Every floral design is created fresh on the spot — nothing is pre-made — ensuring each arrangement is one-of-a-kind. As a farm-based flower shop, Jenny’s flowers last longer, bursting with vibrant energy, fragrance, and soul.
Jenny’s journey began humbly. At just 19 years old, she opened Magical Blooms with $500 and a dream. Today, she’s a single mother, a nationally recognized floral artist (you may recognize her from HBO’s Full Bloom), and the creative force behind some of Southern California’s most breathtaking events. Through it all, she credits the Palos Verdes community for her growth.
“This community is my heart,” she shares. “So many of my customers have become like family. I’ve done the flowers for their weddings, their children’s births, and even their farewells. It’s the deepest honor.”

Her son, Jack Barker, has grown up among blooms, watching his mother transform grief into beauty and ordinary days into celebrations. Now 13, Jack attends PVIS (Palos Verdes Intermediate School) and proudly helps out at the shop whenever he can. “He’s my why,” Jenny says. “And he’s also my helper!”
Beyond flowers, Jenny’s passion lies in bringing people together through team-building and helping them build confidence. Whether through corporate workshops, creative classes, or intimate gatherings, she believes in the magic that happens when people create beauty together.
Step inside Magical Blooms today and you’ll discover more than stunning arrangements. You’ll enter a sensory experience — curated floral installations, mood-setting music, ambient lighting, and now, the crown jewel: The High Tea Experience.

Imagine sipping hand-selected teas beneath glowing neon signs, surrounded by Jenny’s farm- fresh flowers. Vintage china, elegant tiered trays, buttery scones, and heavenly pastries complete the experience — it’s like stepping into a dream.
“The High Tea was born from the same desire that fuels all my work,” Jenny explains. “To create space for connection, comfort, and joy. Whether you’re celebrating your mom, your best friend, or yourself, this is a place to feel something real.”
Her Design Dinner Parties follow a similar spirit. Guests first create stunning floral centerpieces, then gather around a beautifully set table to share a meal among the blooms they crafted. For Jenny, flowers aren’t just decorations; they are the heart of every gathering.
For those who can’t visit in person, Jenny shares her magic across the country through her Farm-Direct DIY Flower Boxes, shipping farm-fresh stems nationwide. It’s a way for anyone, anywhere, to experience her belief that flowers aren’t just beautiful — they’re transformational.
Why “The Flower Doctor”? What began as a nickname has grown into a philosophy. Jenny doesn’t simply arrange flowers; she listens to what her clients need emotionally, spiritually, energetically, and crafts something that speaks directly to the heart.

“I started visiting flower farms and realized I wasn’t just picking flowers. I was picking up energy,” she says. “Every bloom carries a frequency. I tune into it and translate it into something healing.”
During the pandemic, this belief became her mission. Flowers became lifelines — tokens of love when people couldn’t be together. And through it all, Jenny kept delivering, often personally, bringing moments of beauty to doorsteps across the South Bay.
In true visionary fashion, Jenny isn’t slowing down. A greenhouse is in the works, and her first book, to be published by Hachette, is coming in 2026. She continues to host workshops, private design sessions, and unforgettable events that turn fleeting moments into lasting memories.
“My goal has always been to help people feel,” Jenny says. “Through flowers, through tea, through storytelling. Everything I do is about connection.”
This Mother’s Day, whether you send a bouquet, book a tea reservation, or simply step inside her magical shop, you’ll leave with more than flowers. You’ll carry a piece of Jenny’s heart — and the reminder that beauty, when created with love, truly is a kind of medicine.
