What’s been your best Sophisticated Spreads moment?
A lot of Sophisticated Spreads work isn’t quite as glamorous as it appears to be on our instagram feed. There are lots of long days delivering boxes in LA traffic, accounting nightmares, and building boxes solo, so I treasure the special moments that I spend working with other individuals who are similarly inspired and passionate. Just recently I did a styled photoshoot with about seven other female-owned businesses where we set up a very elaborate picnic spread featuring all different products from handmade mini fruit tarts to balloon garlands and beautiful flowers. The highlight of the shoot was soaking up the California sun and wisdom from other inspiring girl bosses while we munched on my cheeseboard spread! Moments like these act as a reminder of how incredibly lucky I am to be waking up and doing this every day!
What’s your favorite type of event to do?
People are always shocked to hear that weddings are my favorite events… There is something extremely special about being a part of such a sacred moment, and having the ability to create something that uniquely encapsulates the desires of all parties. We had the privilege of creating a magical dessert table spread for an engagement party earlier this year, and the brainstorming process was a creative playground for me as I utilized Pinterest for inspo! Draping cotton candy and sour gummy worms throughout the sophisticated presentation provided a reminder for the young couple of their childhood, and accommodating special requests like this always is a fun challenge for me!

SOPHISTICATED SPREADS

What inspired you to launch Sophisticated Spreads?
Throughout high school, I used the combination of my advanced flavor palette and eye for aesthetic to create aperitif boards that have become a staple for my circle of friends and family. In March of 2020, my clientele was broadly expanded as a high net worth individual sourced me to fly to Miami and make a spread for 65 people.
A week after my first official event, the world was shut down due to the pandemic. My decision to take a gap year was initially born out of a desire to stay at home and settle my qualms about the uncertainties of a freshman year during Covid-19. However, the concept of Sophisticated Spreads was born out of this serendipitous decision.
AT THE AGE OF 18 AND DURING THE PEAK OF THE CORONAVIRUS LOCKDOWNS, I LAUNCHED SOPHISTICATED SPREADS, A CHEESE AND CHARCUTERIE BOARD COMPANY THAT HONES IN ON THE TASTES OF CALIFORNIA CULTURE AND FEATURES LOCALLY SOURCED INGREDIENTS THROUGH SHOWSTOPPING GRAZING TABLE DISPLAYS.
What are your plans for the future?
I am always challenging myself to dream bigger and pursue a larger audience as I am confident that Sophisticated Spreads will be a national company someday soon. I truly believe that the humble beginnings of this company and the passion that is the fuel behind all our endeavors provides the perfect combination for endless possibilities. Being a senior in high school in 2020 helped me re-envision the trajectory of my life and let go of any attachment to what the future will look like; applying this mentality to my company and embracing all the future has to offer is the foundation for my success.
