Seven Palos Verdes School District Students Win Prestigious Talent Awards

Six Palos Verdes Peninsula High School students plus a seventh from Palos Verdes High won awards ranging from first place to honorable mention in the prestigious annual Rotary fine arts competion Pageant of the Arts held recently at the Nickelodeon Animation Studios in Burbank.  The event included more than 20 secondary schools in greater Los Angeles and was sponsored by Rotary District 5280.    

First, second, and third-place winners were PVP High School classical ballet dancer Hannah Sheriff, violinist Kevin Hu, and Taiko drum player Rhys Ota.  Receiving honorable mention were PVP HS artist Veronica Chen, vocalist Aarna Veera, and Korean drums players Jaden Kim and Jaden Song (PV HS).   

The competition included artists, musicians, vocalists, dancers, and speakers, all finalists sponsored by their local Rotary club.  Three-member judging panels were made up of distinguished professionals within each contest category.  

No other secondary school in the competition placed more than Palos Verdes Peninsula High.  El Segundo High School was second with three award winners.  The seven peninsula winners were sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of Palos Verdes Peninsula (with four), Palos Verdes Sunset (two), and South Bay Sunrise (one).
