PVHS Underwater ROV Team Preparing for Regional Competition

The Palos Verdes Institute of Technology (PVIT) is a signature program exclusive to Palos Verdes High School (PVHS). This engineering program is composed of multiple competitive robotics and engineering teams. Participation in these teams provide PVHS students with hands-on experience working with a variety of robotics and engineering disciplines.

One of the most accomplished robotics teams within the PVIT program is the Underwater ROV (remotely operated vehicle) Team. This team has been competing at the MATE Regional Competitions and Worlds Competitions since 2010 with six “top five” finishes. Last year they placed tenth at the 2024 ROV MATE World Championship. On May 3rd, the team will compete in the 2025 regionals.

They have been diligently designing and building this year’s underwater ROV and accompanying float (a secondary autonomous robot). This year, there were over forty-five applicants for the Underwater ROV Team. As a result, two teams were formed, and each team is working hard on their individual floats and robots. One team, “Edmund”, consists of returning members while the other team, “Fitzgerald,” consists of new members. The team is thankful for the financial support from the PVHS Booster Club and the Peninsula Education Foundation.
