On October 29, 2025, community leaders, city representatives, and members of the Palos Verdes Golf Club gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the Palos Verdes Recycled Water Pipeline Project, a landmark initiative that will conserve millions of gallons of drinking water each year.

Led by the West Basin Municipal Water District, in partnership with the Palos Verdes Golf Club, California Water Service Company (Cal Water), and the cities of Torrance and Palos Verdes Estates, the project marks a historic step forward in regional sustainability.

Spanning approximately 3.5 miles of new pipeline from an existing West Basin water main in Torrance to the Golf Club, the project now delivers an annual supply of 210 acre-feet of recycled water—enough to irrigate the Club’s lush fairways and greens without relying on potable water. Another 15 to 30 acre-feet per year will support nearby parks and a local school, extending the environmental impact throughout the community.

“This is a forward-thinking investment in the future of our region,” said a representative from West Basin. “By using recycled water for irrigation, we’re protecting our precious drinking water resources and building greater drought resilience for generations to come.”

The benefits are far-reaching. Each year, the project conserves over 60 million gallons of fresh drinking water, reducing the area’s dependence on imported water from Northern California and the Colorado River. Over time, it’s also expected to lower future costs for developing new potable water sources for Cal Water customers.

Construction of the pipeline was substantially completed in spring 2025, followed by the installation of a new pump station designed to move recycled water to higher elevations. The project was supported by $2 million in grant funding from the California Department of Water Resources, with an additional $2.5 million investment authorized by the California Public Utilities Commission.

The completion of the Palos Verdes Recycled Water Pipeline Project stands as a testament to collaboration, innovation, and stewardship—reflecting the shared commitment of regional partners and the Palos Verdes Golf Club to preserve California’s most essential resource.
