On Sunday, July 20, 2025, the Palos Verdes Democrats held their 10th Annual Picnic at St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church in Rolling Hills Estates. The nearly 200 people in attendance shared a strong sense of community and democratic spirit. There was keen interest to hear from the elected officials and the impressive line up of guest speakers including Congressman Ted Lieu, Senator Ben Allen, Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi and former Los Angeles Mayor and candidate for California Governor Antonio Villaraigosa. Three candidates running for the State Assembly spoke: Scott Houston, Shannon Ross and Paul Seo. Jeff Prang, our county assessor, and Nichelle Hunter Henderson from the Los Angeles Community College Board of Trustees also addressed the group. Activists speaking included former NFL player Chris Kluwe and California Young Democrats President Giovanni Chavez.

The democratic club is very active in Peninsula politics and PVE City Councilmember Derek Lazzaro, RPV City Councilmember George Lewis and PVLD Board Trustee Zoe Unno joined the event. At the conclusion of the program Congressman Ted Lieu installed the new Palos Verdes Democrats Board of Directors for 2025-26.
Palos Verdes Democrats President Tim Dixon emphasized “The midterm elections next year are crucial if we are going to save our democracy and our members are ready to fight for our democratic values!” For more information about future events and membership, please visit www.PVPDemocrats.org.
