Meg Walker is stoked about her Palos Verdes life these days. With 18 month old Sloane and her three year old sister Eve happily situated at the family’s Palos Verdes Estates home and her recent acquisition of the coveted location La Venta Inn and being awarded as the Exclusive Manager and Caterer of Events there. Chef Meg is engaged, active and committed to what she calls this exciting, amazing journey in making the world and the Peninsula a happier, better place.
While cooking up the reinvention of the newly reopened historic La Venta Inn in Palos Verdes Estates, Walker is conscious of the legacy she is inheriting and is thankful to call the Peninsula home.
“We moved up here a few years ago and we really love it. We love the home. We love the community. It’s not just our community, we know. La Venta is not just a business, it’s a very big part of this whole Palos Verdes community and we respect that. We bring everyone in and we are gracious. That’s our philosophy at La Venta. It’s in the Peninsula’s blood and this, we realize, is a huge honor. We are just grateful to be part of this community,” says Walker, whose husband Anthony Walker is in the real estate business.
As owner of the highly esteemed Made by Meg Catering Company, based in Redondo Beach, Walker says she’s always loved sharing food, bringing people together and creating happiness. As a teenager she would often cook for her entire family. She developed her prowess in the kitchen through a lifelong love affair with cooking.
She began her career brewing up deals in the world of finance, but it wasn’t her calling. While working for Smith Barney, Walker refined her skills in the kitchen at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts. She worked in restaurants all around Los Angeles and eventually began cooking on her own. When a friend asked her to cater an event for a large corporation it was such a success the jobs just kept on coming and Made by Meg Catering was born.
“I started my business in 2007 and at that time all I knew was that I had nowhere to cater. I realized I needed to find a place to cater and it hasn’t been easy. I researched and researched. The landlord information is concealed so just locating that took some effort. It’s been an arduous process,” she says of her journey to becoming the Exclusive Manager and Caterer of Events at La Venta.
