Know Your Neighboor

Eileen Hupp

TAKING GOOD CARE OF BUSINESS

If you have been around Palos Verdes long enough or have been to any event related to doing business in the community then you have most likely seen or spoken to this energetic, friendly and well-spoken woman, Eileen Hupp.

She zips around the room with confidence but does it in a humble way welcoming newcomers and making them feel at ease. She knows what she is doing and she understands your “business”.  Eileen’s “business” is taking care of business. She is the President and CEO of the Palos Verdes Chamber of Commerce and has been for eight years. This is a woman full of energy. She loves people and when asked how she is able to “do it all and all the time” she says, “I get my energy from people and I love it!”

In addition to countless leadership roles with PTAs, Booster Clubs, college alumni groups and various nonprofits, she proudly served as President of the Peninsula Chapter of National Charity League; Vice President of the Junior League of Los Angeles; Chairman of the South Bay Association of Chambers of Commerce; and President Elect of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Rotary Club. I was honored by the California State Assembly as a “Woman of Distinction–66th District” and Rotarian of the Year-both in 2018.

What motivates you?
New and different challenges. Creating and building something new from the ground up. Change. Risk. Variety. People.

What is the best part of your job?
Connecting businesses and people across the community. Making a difference and helping businesses grow.

How long have you lived in the community and how did you get here?
A native New Yorker, I received both BA and MA degrees from Johns Hopkins University, before heading to the University of Chicago for an MBA. I launched my career in Chicago, first as an Econometric Consultant for large Midwest manufacturers, and then heading up Strategic Planning and Market Research for Marshall Field & Company. In the late ‘80’s, I was recruited to a company in the South Bay. We left Chicago and bought our first of several homes in Rolling Hills Estates. While I’d like to say that this was all carefully planned, it was pure good fortune that we settled in a community as special as Palos Verdes!

Three to five words that describe you:
I actually texted my kids and here’s what they sent back:
Sharp, energetic and sparkling, driven, kind-hearted, resilient and conscientious.

Something people might be surprised to know about you:
I was a baton twirling champion in high school.

"Since I started as a Candy Striper in Junior High, volunteering has always been a huge part of my life and a value that
I worked hard to instill in my kids." says Eileen
