DESCRIPTION:Join us for a tour of the Point Vicente Interpretive Center (PVIC) native plant garden and a walk along the spectacular bluff top at the Vicente Bluffs Reserve and the Ocean Front Estates residential development.\n\n\n\n\n\nLearn interesting facts about the gray whale and hopefully observe some as they make their annual roundtrip migration between nursery lagoons in Mexico and feeding grounds in the Arctic. The Gray Whale Census & Behavior Project has operated on the Palos Verdes Peninsula since 1984. Trained volunteers on the PVIC patio spot and track Pacific gray whales on their annual migration\, recording counts and behaviors. Los Serenos de Point Vicente is looking for you.On September 6th\, Los Serenos de Point Vicente is hosting an Open House to introduce community members tohow they can become and participate as volunteer docents. Los Serenos de Point Vicente is in search of adultswho are eager to learn about the local geology\, flora and fauna\, and history\, and share their knowledge withmuseum visitors.The Open House will be held at the Point Vicente Interpretive Center on September 6th at 7pm\, and the DocentTraining Course begins on September 13th\, 2023 from 12:30pm.Membership is open to those interested in learning about the nature and history of the local area and sharingthis knowledge by conducting tours of the Point Vicente Interpretive Center and various Trails scattered on thePalos Verdes Peninsula. Click Here for a full description of docent duties and responsibilities.Trainees meet at the PVIC one day a week for approximately 8 weeks to learn about numerous subjects through classroom lectures and onsite walks. After training\, docents commit to 72 volunteer hours per year for aminimum of two years. Applicants to the docent-training program must be at least 18 years old.

Whale of a Day celebrates the migration of the Pacific Gray whale from the frigid waters of the Arctic seas to the warm lagoons of Baja California.\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent highlights include:• Children’s games & crafts• Inflatables• Face painting• Point Vicente Lighthouse Grounds Tours• Tours of the Interpretive Center’s museum• Marine-themed vendors and local organizations• Live music from local artists• Food trucks\, Kettle Corn\, Churros\, Beer & Wine• Silent Auction & Raffle• And as always – gorgeous views and cliff-side whale watching!\n\n\n\n\n\nThe event is free to the public and takes place on the main grounds of the Point Vicente Interpretive Center at 31501 Palos Verdes Drive West.
