Whale of a Day celebrates the migration of the Pacific Gray whale from the frigid waters of the Arctic seas to the warm lagoons of Baja California.\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent highlights include:\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChildren’s games & crafts\n\n\n\nInflatables\n\n\n\nFace painting\n\n\n\nPoint Vicente Lighthouse Celebrates 100 Years stop by for a tour of the grounds\n\n\n\nTours of the Interpretive Center’s museum\n\n\n\nCoastal Inspired vendor fair created by Dreamer’s Market\n\n\n\nLive music from local artists\n\n\n\nFood trucks\, snacks\, beer & wine\n\n\n\nRaffle\n\n\n\nAnd as always – gorgeous views and cliff-side whale watching!\n\n\n\n\nThe event is free to the public and takes place on the main grounds of the Point Vicente Interpretive Center (PVIC) at 31501 Palos Verdes Drive West. Apply for our upcoming Docent Training Class today.\n\n\n\n\n\nOn Wednesday September 10th\, 2025\, Los Serenos de Point Vicente is hosting a New Docent Training Classes.Los Serenos de Point Vicente is in search of adults who are eager to learn about the local geology\, flora andfauna\, and history\, and share their knowledge with museum visitors.Membership is open to those interested in learning about the nature and history of the local area and sharingthis knowledge by conducting tours of the Point Vicente Interpretive Center and various Trails scattered on thePalos Verdes Peninsula. A full description of docent duties and responsibilities is available here :www.losserenosrpv.org/become-a-docent/ .Trainees meet at the PVIC one day a week for approximately 8 weeks to learn about numerous subjects throughclassroom lectures and onsite walks. After training\, docents commit to 72 volunteer hours per year for aminimum of two years. Applicants to the docent-training program must be at least 18 years old.The 501(c)(3) non-profit organization Los Serenos de Point Vicente has assisted and supported the City of RanchoPalos Verdes’ objectives for the Point Vicente Interpretive Center since 1984. It operates various educationalprograms for children between 2 and 18 years of age. It also provides learning opportunities for the generalpublic through Monthly Docent Guided Nature Walks which are held at\, Forrestal Nature Preserve/Ladera LindaCommunity Center\, the Trails at Ocean Trails Nature Reserve and Alta Vicente Nature Reserve. The Gray Whale Census & Behavior Project has operated on the Palos Verdes Peninsula since 1984. Trained volunteers on the PVIC patio spot and track Pacific gray whales on their annual migration\, recording counts and behaviors. Los Serenos de Point Vicente is in search of adultswho are eager to learn about the local geology\, flora and fauna\, and history\, and share their knowledge withmuseum visitors.The Open House will be held at the Point Vicente Interpretive Center at 7pm.Membership is open to those interested in learning about the nature and history of the local area and sharingthis knowledge by conducting tours of the Point Vicente Interpretive Center and various Trails scattered on thePalos Verdes Peninsula. Click here for a full description of docent duties and responsibilities.The 501(c)(3) non-profit organization Los Serenos de Point Vicente has assisted and supported the City of RanchoPalos Verdes’ objectives for the Point Vicente Interpretive Center since 1984. It operates various educationalprograms for children between 2 and 18 years of age. It also provides learning opportunities for the generalpublic through Monthly Docent Guided Nature Walks which are held at Abalone Cove Shoreline Park\, ForrestalNature Preserve/Ladera Linda Community Center\, the Trails at Ocean Trails Nature Reserve and Alta VicenteNature Reserve. Los Serenos de Point Vicente docents and volunteers provide interpretive and educationalservices to the community regarding the unique features and natural and cultural history of the Palos VerdesPeninsula\, and the migrating Gray whales that could be easily viewed from the Center’s outstanding vantagepoint by the Center’s many visitors.
