The City of RPV and Sakura City in Japan Celebrate the One-Year Anniversary of Becoming Sister Cities
On August 4, the city of Rancho Palos Verdes hosted a hybrid in-person/virtual event that included the Mayor of RPV, Eric Alegria and Takashi Hanatsuka, Mayor, Sakura City, other guest speakers, dance performances, cultural exchange videos and the unveiling of a sister city directional sign at RPV City Hall.
Since 2001, more than 300 students from two middle schools in Sakura City have traveled to Rancho Palos Verdes to attend Miraleste Intermediate School, enabling students from both cities to attain a robust cultural understanding and appreciation of both countries. Building on this bond, RPV and Sakura City made their cross-cultural friendship official in August 2020 by becoming sister cities.
