For more than a century, Redondo Van & Storage has stood as a testament to commitment, community, and quality service in the South Bay and greater Los Angeles area. Since its establishment in 1919, the company has been dedicated to providing top-notch moving and storage services, evolving with the times while maintaining an unwavering dedication to its customers.
A Century in the Making
Redondo Van & Storage’s roots are deeply embedded in Redondo Beach, California, where it set up shop at 325 Diamond Street in 1919—a location that has served as the company’s headquarters for an impressive 104 years. The company’s commitment to independence and quality is evident in its unique status as an independent, family-owned, and operated business, distinguishing itself from larger national van lines in the moving and storage industry.
Over the years, ownership changes have been minimal, with the Halvorsen family assuming control in 1989. Greg Halvorsen, a Palos Verdes Peninsula native with over six decades of local roots, has been at the helm for the past 40 years. In 1989, Greg and his wife Laurie Inadomi-Halvorsen took over full ownership, expanding the fleet to 10 trucks and increasing storage capacity with four local warehouses.
A Family Business With Deep Community Connections and Roots
The Halvorsen family’s connection to the Palos Verdes Peninsula is not just a business affiliation but a deep-rooted commitment. Greg and Laurie’s ties to the community span decades, with Greg growing up on the Peninsula and graduating from Rolling Hills High School in 1968, as a distinguished quarterback. Laurie has been an active commercial real estate agent in the South Bay for over 35 years, and a major donor and founding member of the Peninsula Education Foundation’s Real Estate Honor Roll since its inception in 2008. She also served on the Board of Vistas for Children for 5 years as well as the Norris Theatre Board. Growing up, both sons have been involved in Rolling Hills Little League, Palos Verdes Peninsula 4-H Club, Vistas for Children, and Palos Verdes Performing Arts.
The family’s commitment to community involvement extends beyond the business, with Redondo Van & Storage supporting local schools, theaters, charity drives, and events. This dedication has earned both Greg and Laurie the Switzer Learning Center’s South Bay Man and Woman of the Year awards, respectively.
A New Chapter with Ryan Halvorsen
In 2018, the next generation of the Halvorsen family, Ryan, joined the business as Chief Operations Officer, bringing a wealth of cross-sector experiences to the table. Ryan grew up on the Palos Verdes Peninsula where he graduated from both Rolling Hills Country Day and Chadwick Schools. With a professional background that includes a Coro Fellowship in Public Affairs and management consulting for Accenture Federal Services, Ryan has seamlessly transitioned into a leadership role within the family business.
Under Ryan’s guidance, Redondo Van & Storage has continued to thrive, earning accolades such as being voted the Best Moving Company in the Daily Breeze/Easy Reader for consecutive years as well as winning the 2023 Excellence in Business Award given by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Chamber of Commerce. Ryan’s focus on streamlining operations, expanding the business footprint, and building strategic partnerships has contributed to this success.
Quality Service, Community Commitment
Redondo Van & Storage’s range of services, including moving, storage, and packing, is tailored to meet the evolving needs of the local community. The company stands out by keeping all moving teams as in-house employees, ensuring a high level of quality control.
A testament to its unique position in the industry, Redondo Van & Storage has received numerous accolades, including online designations as a Neighborhood Favorite on the NextDoor app. With over 75% of its business coming from repeat and referral customers, the company’s reputation for excellence speaks for itself.
Giving Back: A Tradition of Community Support
Redondo Van & Storage’s commitment to giving back extends beyond its services. The company actively participates in various community initiatives, most notably, the Torrance Memorial Medical Center Foundation’s Holiday Festival, where Redondo Van & Storage has donated moving services for the past 27 years. The company helps with the set up and break down of the iconic weeklong celebration under the white tent. Plus, all of the decorated trees that are auctioned off to raise money for the hospital’s projects are then delivered to the winners courtesy of Redondo Van & Storage.
As Redondo Van & Storage looks towards the future, its commitment to quality service, community involvement, and family values remains unwavering. With Ryan at the helm, the company is poised to continue its legacy as a local household brand, embracing the next chapter in its remarkable 100+ year history.
