Live From 205, Palos Verdes High School’s award-winning and fully student operated broadcast channel introduced to the school in 2005. Along with their devoted teacher, Mr. Beaucar, this small team of students directs and produces two episodes a week for their peers, faculty, and others to enjoy.
These 10 to 20 minute episodes consist of and incredibly engaging content, including: school activities, updates on the hill, new and upcoming businesses in the area, events, school sports, and many more relevant affairs that transpire in the South Bay. With each episode taking about four days to complete, the students are able to research, interview, and visit new people and places for the community to learn about in the upcoming episode.
This exceptionally prestigious program has won over 60 individual student awards, three team awards, and eight excellence awards. Their most recent award was the 2024 Broadcast Excellence Award, exhibiting the true talent that it takes from a student to be a part of life from 205. Now Live from 205 has a reputable name, making them one of the number one high school news programs in the country.
Students learn to come up with an EHAS package (everyone has a story) at the beginning of every week to share their ideas for upcoming episodes, further proving the creativity of each student on the team through the originality of every episode. Mr. Beaucars enthusiasm about supervising this program roots in his knowledge that “the skills you learn from this program can transfer to so many different careers, giving these students the ultimate package to success”.With over 60 applications, and only 12 spots on the team for next year, the competitive nature of this program continues to reveal itself. On a whole level of its own, Live From 205 stands as an expanding beacon of greatness and accomplishment.
