On Thursday, June 1, 2023, Peninsula Education Foundation (PEF) recognized the Major Donors who have given $2,500+ during the 2022-23 school year. These school families, alumni, corporate sponsors and real estate donors have generously supported students at all 17 Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District (PVPUSD) schools.
PEF reached its campaign goal of gifting $2.1 million to PVPUSD. PEF Executive Director Laura Hughes presented a check to PVPUSD Board of Education President Ami Gandhi. “It is our community’s commitment to education and spirit of generosity that help make the Palos Verdes Peninsula so extraordinary. Our major donors really step up to help PEF elevate education for all students in PVPUSD,” said Laura Hughes.
One of the highlights at the reception was the 2023 Sam Goldberg Award presentation to Shari Shigenaga. A dedicated ambassador and advocate for education, Shari served as a PEF Board of Trustee from 2014-17 and then as PEF President from 2018-2020.
Guest enjoyed delicious fare from Bettolino Kitchen and live entertainment from musician Paul Lemire. PEF would also like to thank Tony and Marina Accardo of Accardo Real Estate Associates for providing the beautiful location for the party.
For more than 43 years, PEF has relied on the generosity of parents, community members and businesses to fund vital programs and teachers including elementary music teachers, PE teachers, library aides, comprehensive and academic counselors, STEM program in 6th-12th grades, College and Career Center staff, teacher grants, additional teachers and more. Their contributions have made a significant impact on our mission to provide high-quality education to young learners on the Palos Verdes Peninsula.
