Jonna Werts, owner of Walk & Wag Southbay, has always loved animals. A former nursery school teacher turned top advertising salesperson, launched her dogwalking and pet-sitting business seven years ago. All her hard work has paid off, as Jonna has just received the “South Bay’s Best Award” for 2020, and nothing is more well deserved then this prestigious achievement for this hardworking business women. Jonna has always loved Palos Verdes. Her mother grew up in Lunada Bay. Jonna and her husband Andrew, who works for Providence Little Company of Mary, have enjoyed living in Palos Verdes for over the past six years. They have one son, Charlie, who is 13 years old. Jonna tells us that Andrew and Charlie are two of her best helpers! When Jonna is not walking and wagging, she enjoys spending time with family, friends, and doing yoga.
A typical walk for Jonna’s furry customers are 30 minutes or an hour. Jonna does up to 10-12 walks each weekday (that’s almost 18 miles a day) and gets rewarded with wet kisses and wagging tails. Dogs know when she is coming and watch with eager expectation for her to arrive. There is nothing more heartwarming than the greeting she gets from her four-legged friends. Jonna gives each furry friend her personal touch. “We treat all animals like our own,” says Jonna. She takes the time to get to know her dogs, getting down on the floor and playing with them. Jonna says, “Dogs are so intuitive. If the owner sees that a dog has a good reaction to you, it speaks volumes.” Her clients have given her rave reviews online. Dogs give her two paws up too!
Jonna considers dog walking her medicine. Walking dogs gives her a sense of optimism and it energizes her. She always starts walking dogs individually, getting to know their demeanor and personality before doing group walks (if desired).
