The “Making Waves” Gallery event by John Van Hamersveld launched on August 17 and concluded on September 8 at the Adler/Smith Gallery in Santa Monica. The exhibit featured a selection of Van Hamersveld’s original sharpie drawings alongside large digital canvas prints, showcasing the evolution of his creative process. Known for iconic works like “TheEndless Summer” poster and numerous album covers and rock posters, Van Hamersveld’s latest series of wave designs has been nearly two decades in the making.
In each piece, everything begins with sharpie. Several large-scale drawings are often created before he identifies the perfect version, which is then scanned and digitally enhanced with vivid colors. Van Hamersveld rarely parts with his original drawings which made this exhibit a unique opportunity to view and appreciate his artistic journey, from raw sharpie renderings to their colorful, digitized transformations.
