Literary Weekend Connects Cultural Adventures and Words

On April 9, the Peninsula Friends of Library hosted its second annual Literary Weekend benefiting the Palos Verdes Library District. The in-person event featured an interview with New York Times award-winning author Lisa See, Chinese and Korean tea ceremonies and traditional music. This multi-sensorial literary and cultural experience drew over 60 participants to the Malaga Cove Library.

See spoke about what inspires her to write historical books, the research behind them and how stories build empathy for others. A highlight was Lisa’s discussion about her book On Gold Mountain, a memoir of her Chinese family’s settlement in Los Angeles, which is being made into an opera at the Huntington Library premiering in early May.

The weekend concluded with a virtual interview with author Rebecca Frankel about her book Into the Forest, which tells the story of how one family from a small Polish village survived the Holocaust and triumphed through love.
