Heather Askinosie and Timmi Jandro know it’s not always easy to go outside and connect with nature but by wearing energy jewelry the high vibrational power of the crystals allows nature to come to you.
“Our mission is always to educate people about the energy of the Earth. We believe crystals are a universal tool. They’re grounding, they don’t care about any of those labels of humanity, they’re just energy, something to hold and inspire,” explains Heather Askinosie who founded Energy Muse 23 years ago with her partner and best friend Timmi Jandro.
They’ve written two books together and are trailblazers in the world of energy jewelry. Hailing from strong, esoteric Manhattan Beach women, these Lunada Bay business partners were destined for this magical journey from the beginning.
“Timmi and I were neighbors, this was the 70s and I lived next door to her Grandma Jo who was talking about reincarnation over the fence while my mother would be reading tea leaves inside,” laughs Heather, who has dedicated her life to taking the guesswork out of crystals and helping people, including her friend Timmmi who calls her a human crystal, to feel inspired and recharged.
”She gave me a necklace. I didn’t know anything about crystals at that time but people noticed. It was exciting. I was in a transitional time in my life, and because of my background in the garment industry I knew how to get things done so we joined forces, and Energy Muse was born,” Timmi says. “Heather and I were both pregnant at the time. We both had boys that were a month apart and now they’re best friends and starting their own business together so I think there’s a destiny to all of this,” she says.
At the turn of the century, they started selling crystal jewelry designed for intentions like prosperity or abundance and people started feeling the energy from the crystals and clamored for more. They got their products into the hands of celebrities and the so-called ‘flip-flop girls with the energy beads’ became a Hollywood hit. Today they run an international business and sell directly to consumers on their website www.energymuse.com. They are thrilled to host Facebook and Instagram live sales and say Tick-Toc is coming soon.
Their goal is to make crystals accessible to everyone. If you don’t know anything about crystals and just want to wear something for fun to feel the energy of the crystals all you have to do is put on a piece of jewelry. Jandro explains you have to hold it and feel it and get to know it. A lot of people wear them daily as jewelry or keep them on a desk or in a pocket. Like essential oils crystals too, are of Earth and they have similar energies.
“People say ‘I’ve had mine for two days. It’s not working.’ So I say when you started your diet, did you lose 10 pounds in two days? No. It takes time. It takes consistency.” They say working with crystals is easy, it does not have to be fancy, just consistent. Choose one that appeals to you and carry it for 30 days. When that time is up, look up your crystal and see if you feel its energies.
Growing their business and their families on the hill has been a dream. As mothers, they are eternally grateful for their PV community. When their children were young they developed the Growing Great curriculum and taught third through fifth graders in the PVPUSD about eating healthy. Timmi’s two sons are now in their twenties. Heather has a teenage daughter and a twenty-something son, and crystals are still a constant in their lives.
“It has been a huge heart opener to realize how supported we are,” says Heather “We are here because of our community. We wouldn’t be here without the people that opened their doors for private trunk shows and new moon circles and bead bar parties and all the amazing things that we’ve done. Palos Verdes is a deep community that has the richness of generations. It’s about our children’s children. Kids come back. They know this is the best place on Earth, they want to stay here too.”
The women of Energy Muse inspire their community and everyone they meet.
