SUMMARY:Los Serenos de Point Vicente Docent Guided Nature Walk at Forrestal Nature Preserve
DESCRIPTION:One of the natural beauties of the Peninsula is the 155-acre Forrestal Reserve. The reserve contains one of the City’s best stands of undisturbed coastal sage scrub\, which serves as habitat for the federally protected California gnatcatcher and as habitat for ocean milk vetch (Astragalus sp.)\, the host plant for the Palos Verdes blue butterfly. \n\n\n\nWe will see evidence of the geological history of the Peninsula since many normally buried features were exposed during the excavation of this area (Quarry Bowl) for mining basalt and other minerals in the 1920’s until 1956. Distance: Approximately 1.4 miles round tripElevation: Highest 590 ft; Lowest 203 ft.Moderate to Strenuous (Park on Forrestal Drive in the public parking area) \n\n\n\nFor more info\, visit www.losserenosrpv.org/ or call (310)544-5260 (PVIC Front Desk).
