SUMMARY:Lunar New Year Celebrations at South Coast Botanic Garden Every Weekend in February
DESCRIPTION:Come celebrate the Year of the Dragon \n\n\n\nSouth Coast Botanic Garden is bringing back its Lunar New Year Celebration for a second year\, with some new twists that will make it even bigger! Our winter blooms and green foliage are a picture-perfect backdrop to usher in the Year of the Dragon\, complete with red lanterns and festive activities throughout the entire month of February. Every Saturday and Sunday\, the Garden will host two 30-minute live performances – at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Both shows will feature the same types of performances including lion dancers\, folk dancers and drummers. There will also be all-day activity stations taking place on the Lower Meadow from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. as well as classes that can be purchased for an additional fee. More information below! \n\n\n\nActivity Stations will be open on the Lower Meadow from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays\, including: \n\n\n\n\nCrafting dragon puppets\n\n\n\nLantern making\n\n\n\nChopstick race\n\n\n\nMahjong\n\n\n\nCalligraphy\n\n\n\nGo! The 109-acre Preserve contains an official State Ecological Preserve with important natural marine resources\, and the bottom of the Portuguese Bend landslide complex. Tour the tide pools teeming with fascinating marine life. This area is a Marine Protected Area\, so removing marine life from the tide pools is prohibited. Moderate to Strenuous (sturdy\, close-toed shoes and walking stick recommended as part of the walk will be over cobblestones). No reservations required\, free (parking fees may apply). DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a performance by the Stars of Tomorrow from the USC Thornton School of Music Winner of USC’s 2023 Ofiesh Quartet Competition\, The Marzipan Quartet featuring Agatha Blevins and Veronicka Manchur violins\, Gloria Choi\, viola\, and Joseph Kim cello. \n\n\n\nThe Marzipan Quartet members are in USC Thornton School of Music’s graduate program studying with its esteemed faculty: L.A. Philharmonic Concertmaster Martin Chalifour (Agatha)\, former New York Philharmonic Concertmaster Glenn Dicterow (Veronika)\, renowned violist and Naumburg Viola Competition winner Karen Dreyfus (Gloria)\, and LACO Principal Cellist Andrew Shulman (Joseph). This concert marks the quartet’s debut.
