DESCRIPTION:The 2nd annual CACTA Art Show\, celebrating the AAPI community\, is now being shown in the Peninsula Center Library. It showcases over 50 pieces made by students\, parents\, faculty\, and alumni from 12 schools in the South Bay.  The art show was created by local high school student and artist\, Audrey Lin.   Our goal is to celebrate the AAPI community using the power of art. SUMMARY:PVAC Artists' Reception for Connective Threads Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Palos Verdes Art Center / Beverly G. Alpay Center for Arts Education is pleased to announce Connective Threads\, a survey of contemporary fiber art in Southern California. Organized by Palos Verdes Art Center\, the exhibition is curated by Carrie Burckle and Jo Lauria. Connective Threads opens January 28 and runs through April 15\, 2023. An artists’ reception will be held February 4 from six to nine pm. \n\n\n\nExhibiting artists include Fafnir Adamites\, Casey Baden\, Jim Bassler\, Cameron Taylor Brown\, Ben Cuevas\, Phyllis Green\, Lydia Tjoie Hall\, Annette Heully\, Dong Kyu Kim\, Michael Koch\, Jeanne Medina Le\, Mary Little\, Carmen Mardonez\, Victoria May\, Blue McRight\, Diane Meyer\, Dominga Opazo\, Claudia Parducci\, Michael F. Rohde\, Gwen Samuels\, Lorenzo Hurtado-Segovia\, Meredith Jackson Strauss\, Carol Shaw Sutton\, Regina Vorang\, and Kay Whitney. \n\n\n\nConnective Threads provides a window into what is currently engaging fiber artists\, even as this discipline continues to evolve and change. Emanating from artists’ studios in Southern California\, the exhibition offers unique perspectives on the complicated identities of fiber art as a genre. Fiber artists can formally exploit the medium’s connections to pattern\, color\, shape\, and texture. Multilayered content can also be woven into its structure through abstract\, representational\, or narrative strategies. The works on view encompass a rich diversity of influences and inspirations\, independent from conventional expectations. Collectively they offer a penetrating examination of fiber’s possibilities.

SUMMARY:Lizzie No & Wine Tasting
DESCRIPTION:Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter\, harpist and guitarist\, Lizzie No fronts a folk-pop band with guitar\, bass\, drums and keys. With the release of her debut album\, ‘Hard Won\,’ in 2017\, Billboard Magazine called her music “simultaneously understated\, simmering and fervent.” With the release of a second album ‘Vanity\,’ Rolling Stone called her a “crisp alt-rock gem.” \nLizzie No is the winner of the American Songwriter Magazine Lyrics Contest\, a finalist in the New England Indie Rock Competition\, and co-host of the podcast Basic Folk. She has performed with her band at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass\, Newport Folk Fest\, Americanafest\, South by Southwest and many others and toured with Son Little\, Iron & Wine\, Adia Victoria\, Ron Pope and Sarah Shook & the Disarmers. Classical arrangements of her songs have been performed at the Louisville Orchestra’s Festival of American Music and the Downtown Chamber Series. \nPre-Concert Wine Tastings: 7-7:30PM\, led by JP Molinari and require an additional ticket. Wine tastings are $16 or free for members at the Friend\, Committee of $200\, VIP Circle\, Premium\, and Angel levels. \nJean Philippe (JP) Molinari will be presenting a selection of fine wines. JP’s career in the wine business began in France. Here in the U.S.\, he honed his skills and love of wine to become a sommelier with the Court of Master Sommeliers. Los Angeles based Honey Whiskey Trio tells stories through song and stomp\, highlighting the musical traditions of American Folk Music. \nAlumni of the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at California State University\, Long Beach\, Courtney Gasque Politano\, Ann Louise Jeffries and Christina Wilson began singing together in each other’s living rooms as an emotional and musical release. In 2013\, after seeing the impact of their music on the contemporary A cappella community\, these “sisters in song” solidified their style as American Folk and picked up instruments to further enhance their vocally driven sound. \nToday their passion for music education\, community outreach\, and singing unapologetically continues to drive them.
