Swan Lake Presented by Peninsula School of Performing Arts
May 20, 2023 @ 7:00 pm
A Tale of Love and Betrayal
Peninsula School of Performing Arts will be presenting a grand performance of Swan Lake, directed, and choreographed by Tita Boulger and Vera Ninkovic, with additional choreography by Roberto Almaguer, Marina Kalinina, and Brianna Fields. This production features the advanced ballet students from PSPA, Samantha Striplin, Cammi Malicse, and Hannah Sheriff in the roles of Odette and Odile. Additional lead roles will be danced by guest artist Mate Szentes as Prince Siegfried and Thel Moore III as Baron von Rothbart. Graduating seniors Isabelle Garvey and Minji Kang will dance the role of Baroness von Rothbart and Diane Anderson and Nicolette Tombu will be featured in the role of the Princess. The cast will be rounded out with an additional 70 performers dancing the Pas de Trois, Petite Cygnets, Swan Corps, and dances of the villages and visiting countries. Swan Lake is known for its many diverse endings, and here you will see an original ending created by Ms. Ninkovic with the swans themselves rallying to save the Prince and Odette from the grips of Baron and Baroness von Rothbart.
Swan Lake is a ballet composed by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky in 1875-76. First choreographed by Julius Retsinger, it was a failure. Since its revival in 1895 with additional new music by Tchaikovsky and choreography by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, it has become one of the most popular ballets of all time.
Performances will be held on Friday, May 19 at 7:00 pm, Saturday, May 20 at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm, and Sunday, May 21 at 2:00 pm. Saturday night performance will begin with performances of the season’s award-winning competition highlights. The other three performances will begin with 30 minutes of recital dances of the younger students of PSPA.
