SUMMARY:The Neighborhood Church Offering Guided Tours for Doors Open Peninsula
DESCRIPTION:The Neighborhood Church occupies the former mansion of a Los Angeles department store owner\, John Joseph Haggarty. Completed in 1928\, it was designed as an Italian Renaissance villa by Armand Monaco with 15\,000 sq. ft. of living area and 32 rooms. It was landscaped by the Olmsted Brothers. Haggarty owned the home only 5 years and sold it in 1933 due to financial problems. After several owners\, The Neighborhood Church purchased the property for $60\,000 in 1950.  \n\n\n\nVisitors will have docent led tours of the building with spectacular views of the Santa Monica Bay.

DESCRIPTION:We believe in creating unique opportunities for people to meet their neighbors and engage in their community in a new way. Come play with us! \nTaiko is a Japanese traditional drumming practice that\, over the last several decades\, has become a global phenomenon. Since 2013\, Grand Vision has partnered with leading taiko instructors to bring the art form to the South Bay. \nTaiko Artist Man Man Mui guides participants toward a repertoire of drumming techniques and patterns. Sessions include developing rhythmic sensibility\, body awareness\, breath and strength training as students make music together as a team. \nTeam Taiko is open to all skill levels and abilities\, from beginners to seasoned musicians\, and fees are on a sliding scale. Recommended for ages 12 and up\, children must participate with a guardian or have a signed participation waiver. \nClasses are offered in person and streamed live via Zoom to allow for all to participate.

SUMMARY:Washed Ashore Art to Save the Sea Exhibit and Adventure Tours
DESCRIPTION:Trash is making a splash in the Garden this spring. Come see beautiful sculptures made of “trashy” finds\, explore our “trashy” past\, and learn how we can all be a little less “trashy” with the Garden’s latest exhibit\, Washed Ashore – Art to Save the Sea. Sixteen giant creatures made from beach debris have washed ashore and landed at the Garden through September. \n\n\n\nWashed Ashore – Art to Save the Sea is a non-profit organization committed to combating plastic pollution through art and education. These 16 sculptures\, which consist primarily of sea creatures\, were built by the organization and its volunteers to inspire and spark positive changes in consumer habits. The Garden\, having been built atop a sanitary landfill\, has been proof throughout the past 60-plus years that beautiful things can come from trashy pasts. With this exhibit\, we further explore the concept\, as well as the education behind what we can ALL do to limit waste\, particularly our single-plastic use. \n\n\n\nWhile Washed Ashore is included with Garden Admission (free for Members\, up to $15 for non-members)\, the Washed Ashore Adventure Tour is an additional $29 per person.  \n\n\n\nThe Washed Ashore Adventure Tour includes a non-stop shuttle tour unlike anything Garden guests have ever experienced. To start\, guests will meet Defender of the Garden\, Sage\, or the spirited and mischievous Blossom. Both characters take turns hosting the tour\, providing humor and fun along the way. The whole experience is about 45 minutes\, including an exclusive photo opportunity at one of the sculptures. Lastly\, tour guests get to take home a reusable SCBG water bottle to help reduce their carbon footprint. Tours are offered Friday through Sunday. \n\n\n\nPlease note\, these sculptures are works of art. DESCRIPTION:South Coast Botanic Garden’s most popular exhibit\, SOAR – Tropical Butterflies\, is returning this May for its third consecutive year.This year\, not only will guests be surrounded by hundreds of tropical butterflies inside the pavilion\, but they have the opportunity to purchase a ticket that includes our new Butterfly Feeding Experience. Those who purchase the Butterfly Feeding Experience for an additional $6 can choose from a flower vial or ring filled with nectar to use while inside the pavilion to help entice butterflies to come closer to them for the optimum and most immersive experience. Species inside the pavilion include the fan-favorite blue morpho\, owl butterflies\, malachite\, rusty tipped page\, gold rim swallowtail\, ruby spotted swallowtail\, giant swallowtail\, orange tiger and more. This year’s exhibit also includes a new beautiful photo opportunity and a chance for guests to help support the exhibit and our new Pollination Garden through our Wall of Wings.$6 for Members and up to $23 for non-members\, which includes price of general admission. Hear all of the top ten hits as well as some deep-cut gems that the band performed during their touring days! \nPureBread is Southern California’s first tribute to Bread\, the Soft Rock supergroup of the 70s\, \nBread rose to popularity in 1970 with their first number-one hit single “Make it With You” which was followed up with no less than 12 top 40 singles making them one of the most prolific commercial pop bands of our time. \nWhen you hear PureBread’s immaculate renderings of the smooth sounds of the 70s\, you will be reminded of just how impactful Bread was in the emergence of soft rock as well as the mark that they made on pop music in general. \nDriven by his deep love and admiration for the music of Bread\, and in particular\, David Gates\, band leader Ray Koukal decided to put together a band of stellar musicians to help him pay tribute to this group. Since then\, PureBread has been working very hard to present this music to you in a very heartfelt and respectful way. \nPre-Concert Beer Tastings: 7-7:30PM\, led by San Pedro Brew Co. and require an additional ticket. Wine tastings are $16 or free for members at the Friend\, Committee of $200\, VIP Circle\, Premium\, and Angel levels. \nTickets $28-38 a person\, beer and wine tastings separate.

Come play with us! \nTaiko is a Japanese traditional drumming practice that\, over the last several decades\, has become a global phenomenon. Since 2013\, Grand Vision has partnered with leading taiko instructors to bring the art form to the South Bay. \nTaiko Artist Man Man Mui guides participants toward a repertoire of drumming techniques and patterns. Sessions include developing rhythmic sensibility\, body awareness\, breath and strength training as students make music together as a team. \nTeam Taiko is open to all skill levels and abilities\, from beginners to seasoned musicians\, and fees are on a sliding scale.
