SUMMARY:South Coast Rose Society Annual Show & Sale
DESCRIPTION:South Coast Rose Society is having their annual Exhibition of Roses in the sun-filled Atrium at the Palos Verdes Art Center on April 29\, 2023\, from 10:00am to 4:00pm. This event is open to the public. We will have vases for the roses and cards to use to identify them. If you don’t know a rose’s name an ARS Rosarian will be on site and available to help you identify your rose. \n\n\n\nSCRS feels this would be a good opportunity to remind\, not only the public\, but also families that we have wonderful open-air gardens and historical buildings that represent the history of our local area close by. We have invited three family friendly ranchos in our area – Los Alamitos\, Dominguez and Los Cerritos\, as well as the Banning Museum\, the Bembridge House and the Point Fermin Lighthouse to display their roses and literature for your pleasure. \n\n\n\nOur members and expert Consulting Rosarians will be available to answer any questions you may have about all aspects of growing roses. In addition\, demonstrations will be taking place. Also\, some special gardening tools\, rose books\, and roses will be available for purchase. \n\n\n\nCome join us and enjoy an extraordinary array of roses\, their incredible fragrance and colors along with information about local historical sites. \n\n\n\nWearing face masks is strongly encouraged when visiting PVAC.

SUMMARY:An Evening With Betty White's Pearls of Wisdom Author Presented by Peninsula Friends of the Library
DESCRIPTION:Spend an evening with Patty and Tom Sullivan as they share intimate stories about their friend\, much-loved actress and comedian Betty White. \n\n\n\nIn Betty White’s “Pearls of Wisdom”\, readers will find a more intimate look into Betty’s life as told through the eyes of Patty Sullivan\, her lifelong friend and adopted family member. Patty met Betty in the late 1960s\, and the Sullivans—Patty\, her husband Tom\, and their two children—enjoyed a rich relationship and amazing closeness through Betty’s final days. Through her stories we see Betty’s fun-loving banter over a game of Scrabble\, her wisdom imparted on a moonlit Christmas sleigh ride\, and her passionate advocacy for all members of the animal kingdom. Betty’s uncompromising values were the authentic core of the life she lived and savored—tasting every minute along the way. \n\n\n\nBetty White’s “Pearls of Wisdom” gives you a glimpse into the personal relationship with the Sullivans and the pearls of wisdom she imparted that forever transformed their lives. \n\n\n\nCocktails and Hearty Appetizers will be served. \n\n\n\nTickets are $75 per person and benefit Peninsula Friends of the Library programs. \n\n\n\nAlso look for free author presentations on Saturday\, April 29 and Sunday April 30. Registration required. Click here for details.

SUMMARY:Washed Ashore Art to Save the Sea Exhibit and Adventure Tours
DESCRIPTION:Trash is making a splash in the Garden this spring. Come see beautiful sculptures made of “trashy” finds\, explore our “trashy” past\, and learn how we can all be a little less “trashy” with the Garden’s latest exhibit\, Washed Ashore – Art to Save the Sea. Sixteen giant creatures made from beach debris have washed ashore and landed at the Garden through September. \n\n\n\nWashed Ashore – Art to Save the Sea is a non-profit organization committed to combating plastic pollution through art and education. These 16 sculptures\, which consist primarily of sea creatures\, were built by the organization and its volunteers to inspire and spark positive changes in consumer habits. The Garden\, having been built atop a sanitary landfill\, has been proof throughout the past 60-plus years that beautiful things can come from trashy pasts. With this exhibit\, we further explore the concept\, as well as the education behind what we can ALL do to limit waste\, particularly our single-plastic use. \n\n\n\nWhile Washed Ashore is included with Garden Admission (free for Members\, up to $15 for non-members)\, the Washed Ashore Adventure Tour is an additional $29 per person. \n\n\n\nThe Washed Ashore Adventure Tour includes a non-stop shuttle tour unlike anything Garden guests have ever experienced. To start\, guests will meet Defender of the Garden\, Sage\, or the spirited and mischievous Blossom. Both characters take turns hosting the tour\, providing humor and fun along the way. The whole experience is about 45 minutes\, including an exclusive photo opportunity at one of the sculptures. Lastly\, tour guests get to take home a reusable SCBG water bottle to help reduce their carbon footprint. Tours are offered Friday through Sunday. \n\n\n\nPlease note\, these sculptures are works of art. While some of them may be touched\, please respect any no-touch signage throughout the exhibit. \n\n\n\nPhoto Credit: Washed Ashore Art to Save the Sea
