DESCRIPTION:The Point Vicente Chapter NSDAR is proud to be awarding medals to outstanding Junior ROTC Officers on Monday\, April 17th \nThe Bronze JROTC Medal is awarded to either a junior or senior student in a high school/secondary school JROTC program. The DAR began awarding medals to ROTC students in 1967 in recognition of the ROTC as an important program that prepares trained officers for service in the armed forces. ROTC Medals are awarded to student cadets of outstanding ability and achievement in high school\, junior college\, college\, or university ROTC programs of the Army\, Navy\, Air Force and Marine Corps. Medal recipients are selected by the professors of military science and the principals of the school. \n~ Recipients must have demonstrated loyalty and patriotism and earned a record of military and scholastic achievement during their participation in an ROTC program.~ Students must be in the upper 25% of their classes in ROTC and in academic subjects.~ They must have shown qualities of dependability and good character\, adherence to military discipline\, leadership ability\, and a fundamental and patriotic understanding of the importance of ROTC training.~ May be awarded to a male or female cadet. \nThis is an in person meeting. All Point Vicente Chapter meetings are open to the public\, and we encourage you to invite friends and family to this special event.

There will also be FREE paper shredding available\, limited to 3 boxes per person – the truck will be parked in the lot adjacent to El Pollo Inka. \n\n\n\nThis FREE event will highlight great environmental initiatives around the community and provide opportunities to learn more about water conservation\, storm water pollution prevention and energy efficiency. \n\n\n\nPromenade on the Peninsula is located on Silver Spur Road between Hawthorne and Crenshaw Boulevards. All stores and restaurants will be open during the event.

SUMMARY:Washed Ashore Art to Save the Sea Exhibit and Adventure Tours
DESCRIPTION:Trash is making a splash in the Garden this spring. Come see beautiful sculptures made of “trashy” finds\, explore our “trashy” past\, and learn how we can all be a little less “trashy” with the Garden’s latest exhibit\, Washed Ashore – Art to Save the Sea. Sixteen giant creatures made from beach debris have washed ashore and landed at the Garden through September. \n\n\n\nWashed Ashore – Art to Save the Sea is a non-profit organization committed to combating plastic pollution through art and education. These 16 sculptures\, which consist primarily of sea creatures\, were built by the organization and its volunteers to inspire and spark positive changes in consumer habits. The Garden\, having been built atop a sanitary landfill\, has been proof throughout the past 60-plus years that beautiful things can come from trashy pasts. With this exhibit\, we further explore the concept\, as well as the education behind what we can ALL do to limit waste\, particularly our single-plastic use. \n\n\n\nWhile Washed Ashore is included with Garden Admission (free for Members\, up to $15 for non-members)\, the Washed Ashore Adventure Tour is an additional $29 per person.  \n\n\n\nThe Washed Ashore Adventure Tour includes a non-stop shuttle tour unlike anything Garden guests have ever experienced. To start\, guests will meet Defender of the Garden\, Sage\, or the spirited and mischievous Blossom. Both characters take turns hosting the tour\, providing humor and fun along the way. The whole experience is about 45 minutes\, including an exclusive photo opportunity at one of the sculptures. Lastly\, tour guests get to take home a reusable SCBG water bottle to help reduce their carbon footprint. Tours are offered Friday through Sunday. \n\n\n\nPlease note\, these sculptures are works of art. DESCRIPTION:Earth Day Clean Up: Kim Rhodes of Heal the Hill facebook group is organizing a community clean up day in honor of Earth Day and would people on the Peninsula to get involved! The way it works: Kim is recruiting neighborhood captains who will choose a clean up location/site (park\, trail – not a busy traffic area)\, recruit and lead a team in their neighborhood area to do a clean up on April 22nd for 1-2 hours. (Similar to how neighborhood watch operates) the suggested start time is 1pm\, but captains can choose a different time window that works for them. DESCRIPTION:PV Bike Club holds regular Sunday morning breakfast rides that depart at 7:30 AM from the fountain in Malaga Cove Plaza\, PVE. Riders of all types\, guests and visitors are welcome; just show up wearing your helmet and with your bike in good working condition! Most of the rides are of medium (20 to 35 miles) duration. The restaurants are generally modestly priced with good to excellent menus. These are social events – not races. We try not to leave anyone behind (unless\, of course\, you want to be alone!). Non-members/visitors may participate in a maximum of one ride before joining the club. Guests must sign a liability waiver form which you will find here: Palos Verdes Bicycle Club (pvbikeclub.net).
