DESCRIPTION:Thirsty Thursdays are getting better this Summer! Come join us for the second season of our Sunset Series\, a weekly event that brings the Garden to life after hours on Thursdays from 5:30 to 8 p.m. starting May 25! \n\n\n\nAfter a sold-out series last year\, our Sunset Series is heading back! Guests can roam our 87 acres or hang out at Dottie’s\, our new food and beverage concessions station near the Living Wall\, where they can sip on a cocktail or grab a bite to eat while enjoying the Garden’s natural beauty\, yard games and music. The young at heart will be entertained in our Kids’ Zone by the fun and energetic Ms. Allison – think parachutes\, obstacle courses\, lawn bowling\, bubbles and more! While we provide the fun\, parents still provide the supervision.* And\, of course\, the cherry on top is each week’s musical performance (see line up below). The musicians will do two 45-minute sets. \n\n\n\nNEW FOR 2023: Want an exclusive experience? Buy a VIP ticket and get premium seating area (still bring a blanket or lawn chair)\, access to the VIP bar\, one free non-alcoholic Butterfly Palmer per ticketholder\, unlimited access to SOAR – Tropical Butterflies throughout the night and early entry into the Garden (5 p.m. rather than 5:30 p.m.). \n\n\n\nThis is truly an event for all\, and we invite you to come and make the night yours! SUMMARY:Washed Ashore Art to Save the Sea Exhibit and Adventure Tours
DESCRIPTION:Trash is making a splash in the Garden this spring. Come see beautiful sculptures made of “trashy” finds\, explore our “trashy” past\, and learn how we can all be a little less “trashy” with the Garden’s latest exhibit\, Washed Ashore – Art to Save the Sea. Sixteen giant creatures made from beach debris have washed ashore and landed at the Garden through September. \n\n\n\nWashed Ashore – Art to Save the Sea is a non-profit organization committed to combating plastic pollution through art and education. These 16 sculptures\, which consist primarily of sea creatures\, were built by the organization and its volunteers to inspire and spark positive changes in consumer habits. The Garden\, having been built atop a sanitary landfill\, has been proof throughout the past 60-plus years that beautiful things can come from trashy pasts. With this exhibit\, we further explore the concept\, as well as the education behind what we can ALL do to limit waste\, particularly our single-plastic use. \n\n\n\nWhile Washed Ashore is included with Garden Admission (free for Members\, up to $15 for non-members)\, the Washed Ashore Adventure Tour is an additional $29 per person.  \n\n\n\nThe Washed Ashore Adventure Tour includes a non-stop shuttle tour unlike anything Garden guests have ever experienced. To start\, guests will meet Defender of the Garden\, Sage\, or the spirited and mischievous Blossom. Both characters take turns hosting the tour\, providing humor and fun along the way. The whole experience is about 45 minutes\, including an exclusive photo opportunity at one of the sculptures. Lastly\, tour guests get to take home a reusable SCBG water bottle to help reduce their carbon footprint. Tours are offered Friday through Sunday. \n\n\n\nPlease note\, these sculptures are works of art. DESCRIPTION:South Coast Botanic Garden’s most popular exhibit\, SOAR – Tropical Butterflies\, is returning this May for its third consecutive year.This year\, not only will guests be surrounded by hundreds of tropical butterflies inside the pavilion\, but they have the opportunity to purchase a ticket that includes our new Butterfly Feeding Experience. Those who purchase the Butterfly Feeding Experience for an additional $6 can choose from a flower vial or ring filled with nectar to use while inside the pavilion to help entice butterflies to come closer to them for the optimum and most immersive experience. Species inside the pavilion include the fan-favorite blue morpho\, owl butterflies\, malachite\, rusty tipped page\, gold rim swallowtail\, ruby spotted swallowtail\, giant swallowtail\, orange tiger and more. This year’s exhibit also includes a new beautiful photo opportunity and a chance for guests to help support the exhibit and our new Pollination Garden through our Wall of Wings.$6 for Members and up to $23 for non-members\, which includes price of general admission. DESCRIPTION:Madde (she/they) \nAlt-rock artist Madde will be bringing her latest album The Salt to Walk On to the Annex stage. Their sound is inspired by punk and rock artists like Green Day\, The White Stripes and The Clash performed with a nod to Riot grrrl style. \nMadde is from Chico\, California and has been releasing music since 2014. They moved to Los Angeles in 2017 to start working on her degree in songwriting at Los Angeles College of Music. Madde dropped out of college in 2019 and began touring and playing shows as the duo The Viles. Now\, Madde is writing\, recording and performing her own music as well as working with multiple musicians. \nScout the Wise (they/he) \nScout Parker is a Black\, Transgender\, Non-Binary\, artist and musician who performs under the name Scout the Wise. While their electronic pop music sounds youthful and current\, he has been performing for more than a decade—starting with posting YouTube videos and self-releasing albums. Scout’s sound has evolved from acoustic guitar and banjo-driven folk to a beat-heavy R&B and emo-influenced indie pop reminiscent of Frank Ocean or James Blake. \nTickets $20-30 a person.

Come play with us! \nTaiko is a Japanese traditional drumming practice that\, over the last several decades\, has become a global phenomenon. Since 2013\, Grand Vision has partnered with leading taiko instructors to bring the art form to the South Bay. \nTaiko Artist Man Man Mui guides participants toward a repertoire of drumming techniques and patterns. Sessions include developing rhythmic sensibility\, body awareness\, breath and strength training as students make music together as a team. \nTeam Taiko is open to all skill levels and abilities\, from beginners to seasoned musicians\, and fees are on a sliding scale. Recommended for ages 12 and up\, children must participate with a guardian or have a signed participation waiver. \nClasses are offered in person and streamed live via Zoom to allow for all to participate.

SUMMARY:Washed Ashore Art to Save the Sea Exhibit and Adventure Tours
DESCRIPTION:Trash is making a splash in the Garden this spring. Come see beautiful sculptures made of “trashy” finds\, explore our “trashy” past\, and learn how we can all be a little less “trashy” with the Garden’s latest exhibit\, Washed Ashore – Art to Save the Sea. Sixteen giant creatures made from beach debris have washed ashore and landed at the Garden through September. \n\n\n\nWashed Ashore – Art to Save the Sea is a non-profit organization committed to combating plastic pollution through art and education. These 16 sculptures\, which consist primarily of sea creatures\, were built by the organization and its volunteers to inspire and spark positive changes in consumer habits. The Garden\, having been built atop a sanitary landfill\, has been proof throughout the past 60-plus years that beautiful things can come from trashy pasts. With this exhibit\, we further explore the concept\, as well as the education behind what we can ALL do to limit waste\, particularly our single-plastic use. \n\n\n\nWhile Washed Ashore is included with Garden Admission (free for Members\, up to $15 for non-members)\, the Washed Ashore Adventure Tour is an additional $29 per person.  \n\n\n\nThe Washed Ashore Adventure Tour includes a non-stop shuttle tour unlike anything Garden guests have ever experienced. To start\, guests will meet Defender of the Garden\, Sage\, or the spirited and mischievous Blossom. Both characters take turns hosting the tour\, providing humor and fun along the way. The whole experience is about 45 minutes\, including an exclusive photo opportunity at one of the sculptures. Lastly\, tour guests get to take home a reusable SCBG water bottle to help reduce their carbon footprint. Tours are offered Friday through Sunday. \n\n\n\nPlease note\, these sculptures are works of art. SUMMARY:SOAR Tropical Butterflies at South Coast Botanic Garden Open Now through August 31
DESCRIPTION:South Coast Botanic Garden’s most popular exhibit\, SOAR – Tropical Butterflies\, is returning this May for its third consecutive year.This year\, not only will guests be surrounded by hundreds of tropical butterflies inside the pavilion\, but they have the opportunity to purchase a ticket that includes our new Butterfly Feeding Experience. Those who purchase the Butterfly Feeding Experience for an additional $6 can choose from a flower vial or ring filled with nectar to use while inside the pavilion to help entice butterflies to come closer to them for the optimum and most immersive experience. Species inside the pavilion include the fan-favorite blue morpho\, owl butterflies\, malachite\, rusty tipped page\, gold rim swallowtail\, ruby spotted swallowtail\, giant swallowtail\, orange tiger and more. This year’s exhibit also includes a new beautiful photo opportunity and a chance for guests to help support the exhibit and our new Pollination Garden through our Wall of Wings.$6 for Members and up to $23 for non-members\, which includes price of general admission.
