Thomas Dambo TROLLS: Save the Humans will have its West Coast premiere at the Garden on October 1 featuring the acclaimed artist’s signature folklore-inspired troll sculptures built from reclaimed materials. These six larger-than-life trolls are meeting here in our 87 acres to try to help us humans out. You see\, hundreds of trolls came together at “Trolliefolkyfest” to discuss their favorite topic – us humans. While they know we mean well\, we keep failing them by making questionable choices\, like cutting down forests\, emptying rivers\, and putting humans – and them – in danger. While most of the trolls think we are past saving\, these SIX think they can help us. DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, November 25\, at 1 p.m.\, Terranea Resort unveils its holiday\, one-of-a-kind\, walk-up merrily decorated pop-up Gingerbread Lounge – located in the resort’s Mediterranean-style Lobby Lounge. The impressive seven-by-seven-foot gingerbread masterpiece will be adorned with gumdrops and candy canes featuring a functioning bar and an accompanying village complete with two trees and fencing fabricated from 1\,000 pounds of house-made gingerbread and “painted” with royal icing. Guests are invited to sip special signature holiday cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages such as hot chocolate and hot apple cider and enjoy special menu items such as Chai Coffeecake\, Maple Pecan Bourbon Pie and Sambuca and Chocolate Almond Biscotti and sweets created by Jermonti and his team. Visiting children can write a postcard to Santa\, crunch on complimentary cookies and spend photo time with Santa on the weekends. Everyone will enjoy live music in the Lobby daily from 7 to 11 p.m. \n\n\n\nThis fantastical gingerbread pastry bar and village extravaganza is inspired by two experiences – a coastal environment with the whimsical influences of a “village by the sea” and by the traditional hometown Calabrian family creations remembered by acclaimed executive pastry chef Pierino Jermonti. The chef’s background even includes an elaborate “competitive” gingerbread community effort that gained the attention of the Vatican\, and the Pope himself visited the creation one year. \n\n\n\nGingerbread Lounge opens Saturday\, November 25\, and runs to Friday\, January 3; weekdays from 4 to 10 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 10 p.m. (Santa visits on the weekends only.)

SUMMARY:Artist Talk: Lawrence T. Yun Engineered Botanicals Art Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Palos Verdes Art Center is pleased to present an Artist Talk with Lawrence T. Yun as part of the  Engineered Botanicals Exhibit. Exhibit is on view from December 1\, 2023 through January 6\, 2024. The exhibition surveys the artist’s extensive catalog of watercolor paintings from 1999- 2019—featuring 51 botanical depictions and explorations ranging from observational to imaginary compositions. \n\n\n\nLawrence T. Yun’s take on the botanical watercolor genre delivers a fresh perspective with modernized associations and energized interpretations. The exhibition features the artist’s many thematic directives from several series\, including ManipuNature\, Hybrid Romance\, and Greenhouse Laboratory. \n\n\n\nYun is a Los Angeles artist and a Professor of Art at CSUF. He has exhibited in galleries and museums throughout California\, including Santa Monica Bergamot Station’s Schomburg Gallery\, Patricia Correia Gallery\, and Sarah Lee Art Works/Projects as well as Torrance Art Museum\, Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery\, and Los Angeles International Airport. Yun’s works are represented in various private and public permanent collections\, including Sony Pictures\, The Franklin Mint\, and Terranea Resort. Additionally\, his work can also be seen in television programs\, including Luck (HBO)\, The Guardian (CBS)\, and Knight Rider 2008 (NBC); and movies\, including Meet the Fockers (Universal Pictures)\, Daddy Day Care (Columbia Pictures)\, and Transformers (DreamWorks).

DESCRIPTION:PV Bike Club holds regular Sunday morning breakfast rides that depart at 7:30 AM from the fountain in Malaga Cove Plaza\, PVE. Riders of all types\, guests and visitors are welcome; just show up wearing your helmet and with your bike in good working condition! Most of the rides are of medium (20 to 35 miles) duration. The restaurants are generally modestly priced with good to excellent menus. These are social events – not races. We try not to leave anyone behind (unless\, of course\, you want to be alone!). Non-members/visitors may participate in a maximum of one ride before joining the club. Guests must sign a liability waiver form which you will find here: Palos Verdes Bicycle Club (pvbikeclub.net).
