SUMMARY:2023 Redondo Beach Veterans Day Tribute ...and Elks BBQ
DESCRIPTION:Redondo Beach will observe Veterans Day 2023 at the Veterans Memorial in beautiful Veterans Park by the Redondo Pier. The ceremony will begin at 1 PM on Saturday\, 11 November. The Tribute will include reflection and remembrances\, commentary and honors to all those that served in the Armed Forces and wore the uniform of their country. \n\n\n\nThe U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Day National Committee has selected Redondo Beach as a VA regional site for the 2023 Veterans Day Commemoration. \n\n\n\nKeynote speaker is local resident Colonel Kenneth Hughey\, USAF\, retired. Col Hughey was a fighter pilot in the United States Air Force and a POW in North Vietnam for over six years. The Air Force veteran will speak about his experiences as a prisoner of war. \n\n\n\nCongressman Ted Lieu (CA-36)\,local elected officials\, civic leaders\, veterans and military dignitaries will also participate. \n\n\n\nMusic provided by the 562nd Air National Guard Band of the West Coast\, Channel Islands Air National Guard Base\, Ventura County. Invocation and benediction from Chaplain Brenda Threatt\, Major\, California State Guard who is also Director of the El Camino College Veterans Center. \n\n\n\nA veteran from the community will be presented the American Flag from the Memorial during the ceremony. \n\n\n\nThe Coastal Naval Sea Cadets\, Redondo High Marine Corps Junior ROTC and the Scouts are supporting Veterans Day. \n\n\n\nDonations and contributions are still being accepted for the Redondo Beach Veterans Memorial. Sponsorships available along with the purchase of Memorial Bricks. See http://www.RBVeteransMemorial.com for more information. \n\n\n\nThe event will be followed by a BBQ hosted by the Redondo Beach Elks Lodge in the Elks parking lot south of their building adjacent to Veterans Parks.The BBQ is free to all veterans and members of the military\, police officers\, firefighters. A $5 dollars donation from all others. \n\n\n\nVeterans Day in Redondo Beach is open to the public.
