On Sunday, October 12th, the K.S. Choi Taekwondo Center celebrated its 40th Anniversary Gala at Michael’s Tuscany Room in San Pedro. They opened their first location in 1984 right across the street from the gala location. The milestone honored the school’s journey from humble immigrant beginnings to becoming one of the South Bay’s leading martial arts academies. Founded on the dream of offering opportunity through Taekwondo, the school has grown into a community cornerstone serving thousands of families throughout Southern California.

The evening featured the presentation of scholarships through the K.S. Choi Foundation for the Arts, a nonprofit dedicated to youth, education and community development. The Indomitable Spirit Scholarship recognized world-class Taekwondo athletes who embody perseverance and future Olympic hopes, while the Art of Motion Scholarship, which was awarded to the Young Creators Initiative, supports emerging young artists who also painted murals for local schools in the Palos Verdes Peninsula this year.

Guests enjoyed an evening of reflection, celebration, and support for the foundation’s mission: to provide opportunities for youth, athletes and families across the city through the benefits of Taekwondo. The gala not only honored four decades of achievement but also looked forward to inspiring the next generation.
