San Pedro on Film: Bars & Bites A Live Talk Event Showcasing Bars and Eateries of the Port Town’s Past and Present

September 21, 2025 @ 3:00 pm

The San Pedro Heritage Museum presents San Pedro on Film: Bars & Bites, a live talk event showcasing bars and eateries of the port town’s past and present as seen on the big screen.

Hosted by SPHM president and San Pedro Today magazine publisher Joshua Stecker, the 3p.m. program will feature clips from notable films, TV shows, and commercials shot in familiar restaurants and watering holes, such as Walker’s Cafe, Acapulco Restaurant, J. Trani’s Ristorante, Utro’s Café, Godmother’s Saloon, both Sacred Grounds locations, and many more.

“Nothing connects San Pedrans over our history and culture quite like the places we gather to eat, drink, and celebrate — and sometimes, drown our sorrows,” Stecker said. “We are lucky to have so many of our favorite haunts — many long gone, but some still around — preserved on decades of film.”

Selections range from blockbusters and hit series such as “Chinatown,” “This Is Us,” “Ghost World,” “Columbo,” and “Ant-Man,” to lesser-known titles and commercials that residents may recall transforming storefronts for a day or two of filming. A selection of restaurant and business-themed artifacts and ephemera from the Museum’s collection will be on display.

Regular tickets are $25, and Premier tickets are $45 and come with a special SPHM T-shirt (standalone value $25). Tickets can be purchased online at www.bit.ly/spof25 or at the door (Regular only at the door). Fundraiser raffle tickets will be available on site for a chance to win an assortment of prizes. Proceeds from tickets, merchandise, and raffle sales will benefit SPHM. The
