The Christmas season, a time of joy, gift-giving, and love, is upon us once again. Before Santa slides down your chimney, ready to spread holiday cheer, he may need some help figuring out what teens are wishing for this year.
As kids, our desires have evolved over the years, influenced by ever-changing trends and innovations. To gain some insight into the latest interests of teenagers, I decided to reach out to the Palos Verdes community to get a sense of what’s currently capturing the hearts and minds of local teens.
We have long since passed the days of fidget spinners and Pokémon cards so what are all the hottest items on the kids’ wish lists this year? There are two main types of teen gift-getters. The ones who will ask for a new gaming console, and those like Abby Waisman, a student at PVHS, who “would rather receive a gift card or money” to be able to indulge in whatever gift they want.
On the other hand, Maddie Ahn, another Senior at PVHS talked about how she’d “love an iPad for Christmas to be able to organize schoolwork better. It’s practical and a little more portable than a computer.”
Personally, as someone who has recently gotten into buying clothes and adding to my repertoire, I would be thrilled with gift cards to thrift stores or clothing stores in the area. Some more mainstream stores to include which are always a good addition to somebody’s wardrobe are Target and Nike. Some thoughts from younger age groups in middle school and below expressed their love for brands like Brandy Melville. Here you can buy casual clothes, dresses, and accessories which are a favorite of Gracie Abe who attends PVIS.
If these suggestions didn’t spark the perfect idea for the young people on your list, here are some more suggestions. For the people who love to spend time outside, some hiking gear or sports equipment could make a timely gift for when spring rolls around. One last creative thought to consider would be exploring the realm of do-it-yourself gifts. There’s a charm and personal touch associated with receiving a handmade item that appeals to everyone. Even those of us who may not consider ourselves particularly crafty can easily venture into the world of DIY with just a single YouTube tutorial, whether it’s crafting a candle or crocheting a piece of clothing.
As we get ready to celebrate the holiday season, let’s keep in mind that the genuine spirit of this occasion is found in the unmatched delight of giving and seeing the smile you get in return. Merry Christmas Palos Verdes!
